Question with 1 note

mugglegirl asked: Could you give me an example for the mind palace? Like bdays?i started in my room, there was a calender and it had MAY scrawled on the top because most people i know are born in may, and then they days were listed, may 1, may 2, etc. the first bday was May 14, and i had 13th crossed out because of bad luck, and i knew the next was the 14th, Four starts with an F and the girl is Fatima. I went on like that, but i have a feeling this wont always be effective as more is added... opinions?

ok, so I just did May. Say i wanted to do every month… Would it be smart to have the calender just list all the months, and then i open the calender to w/e month, and then the day-list begins? Or should i have 12 calenders? Thats seems like a lot. I know this is a hard question to answer, i guess i just want to know what you’d do? I’m good at memorization, but i always get my facts jumbled up (Thats why this appeals to me). For example, in math, (algebra 2) its basically all formulas and putting things together… my problem is that i cant remember all the steps. I get half way through, and then i miss something, and i cant complete the formula, even if I have the rest, because I’m missing one step. I figured this would help a lot, I’m just having trouble visualizing the whole thing. I guess in time it will be easier. Idek what my question is anymore. I guess, whats the best way to begin this? Just so that it doesnt get too complicated too quickly. I feel like i need to build one things at a time, and become very intimate with that thing, before moving on to the next just so i know i wont forget anything, but wouldnt that take way too long?

You’re right, this is a hard question. :p

You’re also right that it sounds like it won’t be as effective as more things are added. But I’m afraid I don’t have any suggestions as birthdays are in my ‘file as unimportant category’ as I’m a douche. If anyone’s got anything do let crisischris know!

As for building one thing at a time, if that’s the way it works for you then do that and don’t worry that it’s taking so long. I’m confident you’ll get faster as you go on - perhaps without even realising it - but if you don’t that’s also ok; it’s like learning an instrument, it doesn’t matter if you’re lagging behind everyond else, there’s no point learning the incorrect technique in order to speed up as you’ll just suffer at a later stage.

Slow and steady if it suits. Don’t kick yourself for it.

I’m really sorry I can’t help with the birthday thing, but I wish you luck, and hopefully someone else will have a suggestion for you.
