Question

Anonymous asked: Hi there just read through your article about the mind palace and love it. I was wondering would you recommend any good books about building one or improving it?

I worked out how to do it myself, but if you look in the question masterpost (under General Mind Palace talk) you’ll see a few recommendations made by others.

Question

gypia asked: Just a quick thing I've found to control my walking pace through my palace (instead of levitating quickly through) is having my fingers do a walking motion that I can mimic within the palace. A little more experimentation found that mimicing other actions with my hands like setting something down solidifys and grounds the action. Makes me look just a little more insane while doing it publicly but memory superpowers seems to be worth it.

Thanks for this! Hopefully it’ll help others. Hope everything’s ok down your end, hun.

Question with 5 notes

Anonymous asked: Mind Palace question! If you wanted to memorise, say, the bones of the hand. How would you do that? I find it very difficult to imagine a suitable trigger that would lead me to the memory.

Phoebe from Friends (phalanges) wearing football boots (metacarpals), the wrist splint (carpals), a t-shirt featuring Zoidberg’s head with the words ‘hey, mate!’ in a trapezium-shaped box beneath (distal row – trapezoid, capitate, trapezium, and hamate); she’s wet herself, darkening the design on her pyjama bottoms – a pattern featuring the moon and two stars. She’s leaning on a small section of a scaffold tube, as one would a cane. (proximal row - pisiform, lunate, triquetral and scaphoid)

Reasons:

  • Phoebe always gave ‘Regina Phalange’ as a fake name
  • Footballers often break their metatarsals
  • The wrist splint reminds me of carpal tunnel syndrome; also serves as a reminder that the hand equivalent to the metatarsals is metacarpals
  • ‘Zoid’ in both Zoidberg and trapezoid
  • Capitate similar to decapitate
  • Trapezium is also a shape
  • Hamate/Hey mate – sound identical
  • Piss/Pisiform – sound alike
  • Moons kicks off Lunar which leads to Lunate – sound alike
  • The triad pattern gives triquetral
  • Scaffold/Scaphoid – sound alike.

That’s how I do it. Hope it gives you some ideas. :)

Question

Anonymous asked: Hi! Thank you so much for your mind palace tutorials! I have just one question: when you enter your mind palace do you see it like you see reality, or you just don't see anything (because your eyes are closed) but you know exactly where every single trigger and object is? 'Cause I can do the later, but I can't see things as I see reality. Thanks :D

No problem at all; ta!

It depends, actually. Most of the time I can see everything, like in reality, and other times I don’t ‘see’ anything, and it’s more like the latter. I think both tiredness and time plays a part - the less of it I allow myself, the more likely it is to be the latter.

Either way, I wouldn’t worry. As long as it’s doing the job I reckon you’re alright. :)

Question with 3 notes

banana-fish asked: Oh hey, I was looking for methods to mentally block out external noises when I saw a link to your memory palace blog in a forum (which you might have already seen this if you google your blog/have a method to check your stats). Tumblr isn't allowing me to post links, but you can find it if you google 'Is the idea of a 'mind palace' at all compatible with the INTP mind?'. Thought you might want to know ;)

This?

If anyone else knows about anything like this (any mention of my post outside of tumblr) I’d love to know about it as I’m a bit of a Lestrade technology-wise and wouldn’t know how to find such things myself.

Question with 3 notes

Anonymous asked: Hallo! Sorry to do this shameless promoting, but I was wondering if you could tell your followers that there's a blog I just made, benaddictsforfrankenstein, for people going to see Frankenstein. It might be good for people to know that other people from tumblr are going beforehand. I'm on anon because I don't want to get any personal followers out of it, I just want to do it you know.. for people.

You’re good, you are. I like you.

Question with 1 note

Anonymous asked: Thank you! They are, miraculously enough, playing a show in rural Maine

Excellent! I highly recommend seeing both versions if you can. It’s a truly incredible production. Glad to have helped and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

Question

Anonymous asked: I really want to see Danny Boyle's adaption of Frankenstein, but I live in the US, do you know if there is any way I can get my hands on it either online or otherwise?

You can look here and see if the cinema encore is showing anywhere near you.

I got to see it because I was researching it. The recordings are not, and probably will never be, made available to the general public. I’m afraid getting to an encore showing is likely your only chance.

You can always compromise by getting the play script (although know that this isn’t the production script as it was submitted to the publishers about a month before rehearsals commenced; there are minor changes) and by purchasing the incredible soundtrack by Underworld - you can actually listen to the whole thing on their website, cause they’re bloody lovely like that.

Question with 1 note

one-in-particular asked: I saw your mind palace tutorial (it was very impressive btw) but I have exams in a week so could I use one to store the information? Or is it a horrible idea and I should listen to the tutorial?

Oh mate, I really don’t think you’ve got time. I think you’re so close to your exams that your efforts are best put into your usual study techniques; then you can build a palace for the next round of exams. I don’t want you fucking up because of an inadequate palace.

Good luck!
